All young people in our care will be registered with a local G.P. (If possible they will remain with their family G.P.)
Southern Care takes all reasonable steps to promote the physical, emotional and developmental well-being of all young people in our care.
Our staff-training programme includes First Aid, Safe Handling of Medicines, Health & Safety and Food Hygiene, the implications of HIV & Aids and Sexual Health and Relationship issues for young people.
Our staff have a good understanding of young people's health in respect of physical and emotional changes, sexuality and cultural development including drug and alcohol abuse.
We ensure that all routine health, dental and eye checks are carried out in accordance with looked after children regulations, policies and procedure.
The young person's social worker will be informed of any medical appointments/illnesses, as will the young person's parents/carers, if appropriate.
Older young people will be consulted and encouraged to give his or her consent for a medical examination or treatment.
All medication is stored in a locked cabinet and it is the responsibility of a nominated member of staff to administer and record.
